New angle on Discrimination at Gay adoption.

This one is a bit more up to date
And hopefully funnier

The governments new law on gay adoption is causing problems with the agencies who demand the right to place pets with gay owners
Our reporter has spoken to one man, Fred Lang, who was shocked at the response he got.  He complained that when he went to the pet rescue centre to adopt a dog his lifestyle was scrutinised . He is quoted as saying “I only wanted a dog for the kids to play with and they started asking me about my sexual orientation when I assured them that my marriage wasn’t a hollow sham to hide my homosexuality they refused to let me take a dog , they did offer me a goldfish but the wife is allergic”
When questioned the manager of Pet Shelter  was adamant “We have to take the welfare of the pet into consideration and it is a known fact that gays make better owners than straight people and in the interest of the animal we have decided to exclude straight applicants” When pressed he also added, “The gay lifestyle is more conducive to the keeping of pets, they like to  wash  and obsess over them and the food bowls get a cleaned out more often and the animals are unlikely to get their tales pulled by little kids”
He declined to comment when told that the new law forbids this discrimination of straight people
We approached the RSPCA who said that there should be some dispensation in the law to allow shelter centres to refuse straights
The minister concerned stated that no exceptions could be made, and demanded that centres would have to allow straights to adopt as well. The spokesman for the RSPCA said that it was a matter of principle and if they were not granted a dispensation they would be forced to close down all their centres and release the animals. “It’s a sign of how much we care” he said.
Mr Lang is said to be waiting outside his local PDSA with a stun gun and a collar and lead should this actually happen,

Great fun this - and maybe with just a hint of truth to it. I had a gay friend once who had a cat, who was treated very well. He invited me for a meal and when I picked a particulary pretty plate out of the cupboard to put my food on - he had a fit. That is the cat's dish!

Same here! I know a certain lilac-point Siamese cat in San Francisco who eats a damn sight better than I do, has her own brush (mine is shared), her own pillow, her own China dishes -- well, I could weep.
Having said that, my perfectly straight sister-in-law down in the Cotswolds asked her 83-year-old mother to get out of a chair because it was the cat's. I still haven't gotten over that.

This was just brilliant, BBS, and there really is more than a grain of truth in this. The RSPCA is bad (or good) enough about screening prospective pet owners, but the Cats' Protection League seem to think that everyone who wants a kitten is a secret cat torturer. Particularly people who have children. Perhaps once gay people are allowed to adopt, they'll lose that competitive pet-acquiring edge . . .?

Do you know the legal situation concerning, old ladies and toy boys? Must and can they be adopted or only fostered. I am asking for an old friend, REALLY.

Yep, good fun. Particularly liked the allergy to goldfish and the comments of the RSPCA. There was an old, gay guy used to appear in our local supermarket from time to time, pink jacket and make-up, bit flipped, forever rearranging the packets of bacon in the fridges - always moaning he only had two quid fifty a day to spend on himself, and when he got to the check-out, all he ever had was cat food. Also enjoyed all the comments above. Glad you went ahead with the Holocaust. Cheers.

Dear Jane,
I am very disturbed by this new edict. My wife and I are thinking of taking on another cat after our beloved tibbles died six months ago. My wife wants to know if we will have to divorce and I will have to wear Lawrence Llewelyn Bowen shirts before I go to the shelter. This is making her quite ill so any advice would be most welcome...
Name and address supplied.

Nice to see it turned on its head. Funny piece that (at least for me) has a more serious edge. Strangely, when we took our cat from the PDSA, they didn't care if I was buggering anyone, all they wanted was a standing order payment.

Enjoyed.

Yep, I know a dog that gets to eat sunday lunch off the best china when he goes visiting!

Thought this was a very nice piece - turned the real news on its head very neatly. Last sentence very good.

Thoroughly enjoyed

I was thinking of doing a piece about positive discrimination in the employment of gay TV presenters - but it would probably be too similar to this in essence.

The pendulum certainly swings, and sometimes goes too far one way, one can't turn on one's cathode ray tube these days without being assailed with rampant campery by Dale Winton, Paul O'Grady, Graham Norton, Julian Clary, Colin & Justin...the joke has worn a bit thin on me!

Anyway, your piece was excellent Jane, you have a good eye for the absurd, which in my mind is a comic's best tool.
