The ground is littered with the fallen.
It was the Skull Splitter that felled me,
now I lie in a confusion of broken men,
my limbs are gone, release me sweet oblivion!

I see the buckled body of my clansman,
but a few feet away, yet beyond my reach.
It was the Broadsword that took his legs,
The Warhammer mashed his brains.

There are a few warriors yet standing.
Great ginger-bearded giants, wailing,
drinking in the scene of the bloodbath.
Wry smiles, they have seen it all before.

This day will be long remembered.
The Paisley Traditional Ale Festival,
Fifth of March Nineteen-ninety four,
Paisley Town Hall, Renfrewshire.

I remember Broadsword and Warhammer from my Maryhill days but Skull Splitter must be highland brew. I can remember scenes like this outside the Orange hall the place was awash with bowler hats and broken glass. You're a scary breed all right whoever took down Hadrian's wall has a lot to answer for
Sterling stuff

Enjoyed this, cleverly put together. There's something about drinking too much bitter/heavy that gives a completely different falling over stage and morning after than anything else.

This brought back some memories - mostly ones I'd rather forget! Liked it.
