Hospital Fire Bell
By pasinger
01 February 2007
I was at the hospital on tuesday morning for drip infusion therapy for my illness. The fire bell began to ring and was making me crazy. I always carry my notebook and pen everywhere, so out it came and I wrote the moment.

The fire alarm starts ringing,
Agitates us all.
The staff all get together,
Put everyone in one hall.

Look out the hospital window,
The smoke seems far away,
All look out in confusion
It's not gonna come this way.

That damn bell JUST keeps ringing,
My head will soon explode.
Please let this drip get finished,
I need my own abode.

That damn bell HAS stopped ringing,
Peace restored once more,
Not before my blood pressure,
Has climbed right up the door.

The patients chatter and moan once more,
The staff carry on with their day,
That red bell looks like it's smiling,
I will be back, another day.

Greetings pasinger,

Being a nurse I was often in the above situation.

I enjoyed the poem, it brought back memories.

BUT, pasinger it is not one of your good ones.

I am glad it shortened the wait for you. Such treatments are terrible for patients.

One or two rhymes were very forced. You capture a moment but this isn't up there.

I hope your treatment is going well.

Phil.

Started off well, seemed quite sinister to me (the combination of something very personal to you with simple rhyming verses)
the first line of the last verse doesn't sound good (repetition of more/door rhyme). Would be interesting to see more poems coming out of this experience.

wish you all the best with your treatment

Fran
