Home Secretary Reid's Brain "Not Fit For Purpose"
By Talisker

Well, he seems to have coined the phrase...

In a startling report released today the Chief Medical Officer, Sir Liam Donaldson has declared the brain of Home Secretary, John Reid, “not fit for purpose”.

After stringent tests conducted by specialists at the renowned Institute Of Neurology (ION), it has become clear that Mr. Reid’s brain function falls far below the standard required to hold high office.

Donaldson, interviewed by Jeremy Paxman for the controversial BBC4 program “Stick It To The Bastards”, admitted that the results were surprising;

“We were shocked to find that Mr. Reid’s neurological responses to various stimuli were below what we expect from many primates.  Clearly, his brain has motor responses which control his limbs and organs, but higher level processing such as logic, reasoning, calculation and the like are totally beyond his capability”.

Pressed by Paxman, Donaldson admitted that it may be in the public interest to test the Prime Minister and other members of the cabinet.

“Given that the Government’s mantra has been “education, education, education”, it would seem reasonable to ensure that the cabinet can function beyond the motor control level exhibited by carnivorous plants” he said.

This is funny, Oli.

Catch me going anywhere near ION: personally, I wouldn't want to know. But just imagine the vast open spaces they'd find in G.W.B's cranium. Bigger than Texas.
fun

"function beyond the motor control level exhibited by carnivorous plants ... " brilliant.

Reminds me of something one of my son's friends once said when the gang were in scathing mode:

"Shut up, B - you have the processing power of a pea! and C - you have the processing power of 2 peas - and on good days, a cucumber."

Yes, and I bet he wished he hadn't, it will haunt him forever. You've just slapped him across his fat face with it. I thought this was spot on, what a great way to turn the phrase back on him; this has the hallmarks of a classic. Packed with cruel barbs, even Paxman's programme title was perfect.
Remind me never to get in an arguement with you
cheers

Hi Oli. This is meant to be for 'Not News'! Your story could well be direct from the pages of The Sun!

Loved the title of the show. I always like to watch that Steven Sacka (don't know how to spell it) on Hard Talk. I can imagine him with a show called You Lying Bastard.

Good stuff, thanks.

Enjoyed it all, but thought the show title especially inspired.

Reid: another gobshite know nothing from the depths of mediocrity. Westminster seems full of them.

Well done Oli.

Great fun this. And reflecting what we all think when we see John Reid going on and on again and again about that which he knows so little about.

Yep, the programme title stole it for me as well. Just have Paxman interviewing a Venus flytrap. Great stuff, Oli.
What`s in a name....

Nice one Oli. Loved the Paxo title. Is it just my imagination or has Reid finally dropped his Doctor nonsense..
happy writing

And I thought that the acquistion of higher level processing automatically made one ineligible for any kind of political post...second only to the acqusition of a conscience that is...

Some great touches in this - loved the Paxman bit and was particularly taken witht he carnivorous plants - what a fantastic ending. Enjoyed it.
