Two Dreams
By Talisker
03 February 2007
I dream that I find myself,
in an immense, labyrinthine building,
which is completely unfamiliar to me.
In trying to escape I become more lost,
corridors become narrower,
rooms become smaller,
until, at last,
I somehow find myself inside a small room,
with only one door,
which turns out to be a dark closet.

I dream that I have the ability to fly,
by simply placing my hands by my sides, palms down,
and displacing the air in a downwards direction,
thus propelling my body upwards.
This unique talent brings me joy and pride,
I soar like a bird,
gazing in wonder at the beauty of the Earth below.
The tricky part is always the descent,
but I somehow manage,
which is a huge relief to my dreaming mind.

I somehow realise,
that were I to enter that closet,
or were I to continue flying upwards,
I will have died.

I have a bit of an interest in dreams after a little research I did for something I was going to write.
These are interesting as they are both very different in texture and feel, but both lead to the same end. Constriction and despair in the first; freedom and joy in the second. I guess you're right - it all comes to an end either way.

Certainly made me think. Keep dreaming the second Oli, the end might be worth it then.

All the best,

Philosophical Phil.

PS: I used to dream I could float. I 'taught' my best friend to do it too.

Being someone who remembers her crazy dreams i could empathise with the thoughts in this work.

I felt it would have been a better as a short story.patricia
