He rides his chariot And casts his javelin Woad covered, brightly dressed Around his neck a torc There he fights for his clan His deeds are put to rhyme By the bards He drives an old hummer And fires his uzzi Tatooed, wearing nike air Blingbling around his neck There he fights for his gang His deeds are put to rhyme By the rappers |

The other - a complete (rhymes with cat) Interesting juxtaposition of similar actions leading to different reactions - at least from me. Phil. | warrior...:)) Written by milz (35 comments posted) 6th February 2007 | when i hear the word warrior, i think of a hero. Good poem. The one you're mentioning in the poem is really a warrior. Such an imagery. I like it. | Written by Fledermaus (3281 comments posted) 7th February 2007 | Thanks Milz and Phil. It's strange how many paralels there seem to be between the two. And if one'd would look at the ancient heroes from a modern point of view I think many of them would be labeled 'problem youths'... | Written by Talisker (1326 comments posted) 7th February 2007 | Yes. Not quite sure if the comparison works for me. I feel sorry for the ancient pictish/celtic warrior being reduced to the level of a gangsta. When the Picts fought the Roman legions at Nechtansmere, it was more than a gangland feud. Interesting though, Batty. Thought provoking. Oh, they surely fought against foreign invaders too, but I think many of the wars between petty kingdoms and clans over cattle and land were close to being gang fights. | conquer and destroy Written by bwoz (125 comments posted) 8th February 2007 | The ancient warriors used violence to conquer, and conquer was necessary for survival back then -- to conquer was to grow and prosper. Today's "warriors" seem more bent on destruction for the sake of shock value. I read about a young punk who killed a lady so he could take the tires and wheels from her car. He torched the car out in the desert -- body inside, and the cops found him at his (parent's) house with the car wheels in his bedroom. Sorry for the mini rant -- good comparison and good length. It doesn't have room to be unreasonable, the images I mean. BW | Written by Fledermaus (3281 comments posted) 21st February 2007 | Hi BW. You're right that the context is completely different, but the warriors of old weren't always fighting for a good reason either. In many sagas they kill just for the sake of killing itself... |
