Three Flowers
By Witzl
06 February 2007
Our garden is encrusted in frost and I am dreaming of springtime.

Himalayan Poppies

Torn from skies, those petals;

centers of scattered gold-on-onyx

When they fall, one by one,

we see

pieces of summer days

lying careless on the

warm brown earth.

Chrysanthemum

They came enclosed in cellophane

Each globe a thousand pointed ivory teeth

Each crushed green leaf so pungent-fresh

Sharp-scented, breathing spiced perfume

Into the hope-chilled autumn air.

Iris

This gaudy lady with her dress

a ragged purple velvet and

her clashing belt and purse of gold.

And yet, she stands so nonchalant

She nods and sways amidst the green

So calm and cool in summer's heat.

Three nice poems. The way they flowed reminded me of haikus, perhaps because there is only one article in the whole piece.
The first one is too clearly different from the other two, but they all make nice reads.

The first is different in style and tone to the others, but no matter. I enjoyed all three but Poppies was my favourite. (Odd, as I don't like them in my garden - I adore iris.)

Nice images, well crafted. I liked the idea of the three flowers being part of one set. From the title I wondered if your stay in Japan had given you an insight into their highly stylised flower arranging, as well as the concept behind haiku.

Good light, unpretentious pieces which I enjoyed very much.

I felt I was looking at the flowers in close up through a telephoto lens, just me and the flower, no idea why; it was just the image came to me. Sjometimes you just take what you want even if it isn't what the writer intended

Back to your very best Mary. Gorgeous, gentle, evocative sketches. Being a gardener, I was pre-disposed to like these, but they are exquisite.

Burns wrote of poppies:

"Pleasures are like poppies spread,
You seize the flower, its bloom is shed"

Lovely. Put a smile in my soul.

Thank you, everyone.

Trying to keep my hand in with this iffy computer. It has been behaving better today, but things are still touch and go. I may have to go out and buy more pens pretty soon.

These are absolutely lovely Mary. I can only say that I reiterate everything that has already been said. Great!
