I’ve been home now for hours The homecoming spent and well forgotten And still she runs in, face full of kisses, Smiling eyes that dissolve my callous worries.
Oh, that chaste and ceaseless heart, How have I earned such boundless love? With a mere glance from across the room Her tail wags in heart-beat thumps.
And I am not much compared to that.

By the way, if you are interested in publishing this, try 'Forward Press' who have an entire section devoted to pet/animal poems. | Written by Talisker (1300 comments posted) 10th February 2007 | Lovely! I have two little Westies. Rowan is the really affectionate one, she breaks my heart with her unconditional love. Lorne is stand-offish, but "needy" at times. To look after a dog is the biggest privilege most humans can aspire to. Enjoy it. Oli | Written by Phil (6383 comments posted) 10th February 2007 | Simple and effective. Even the first time I met him, it was as if he'd known me all his life! I really liked "tail wags in heart-beat thumps", thought that was a good description. Lovely, much enjoyed. E
| How do they do it? Written by bwoz (125 comments posted) 10th February 2007 | Thank you all for reading and comments. I will definitely investigate "Forward Press" as you suggest, Witzl. I always amazes me to the point of asking "How do they do it?" Even when we are not at our best, even when we ignore them, when perhaps they themselves are not feeling up to par -- they still manage to lavish us with "unconditional" love. Yes it sounds sooooo cliche, but it is soooo true still. I've only had one really dumb dog, couldn't be trained to do anything, was afraid of his shadow, and was always right under peoples feet getting stepped on. But he still was the best companion a person could have on any given day. However, I thought this more interesting and insightful than most. Liked it despite myself... Elli |
