3. an exterior covering of a birds egg. Temporary protection from the world

4. Rigid covering that envelops humans. Temporary protection from pain.

I find dictionaries strangely poetic :-)

Interesting piece Oli,

A female shell ALWAYS contains explosives. Men are the detonators.

Even a statement sounds good from you.

OH GOD, HOW I HATE THIS MAN's creative ability.

patricia :( :upset :upset :grin

Fran - just in case you missed the point, this is entirely about suicide bombers. Of course there are other definitions of "shell", but they don't add to the point I am making.

Pat - you are too kind, and exagerate my abilities - I'm beginning to think that you may be taking the p*ss in that subtle Irish way of yours!

Experimenting? I think this is on the edge of what can still be called poetry, although I think the message that came accross is clear. Perhaps you should write a metaphor-dictionary?

'devoid of soul' made this.

Simple, has depth, lots to think on.

I wonder sometimes - if the murderous bastard that's out to blow any dissenting voice to oblivion, has more soul than the rest of us put together. (I should explain, I don't believe in the soul.)

Afterall, they're happy to give everything for a washed out orthodoxy that tells them that human life is worth less than their own ideas. You've got to have a lot of soul for that.

Maybe that's the clincher, those with soul get to blow the rest of us away. Are the godless heathens and moderate, white, Telegraphreading Christians ready to give up their lives for a greater cause? I doubt it.

Certainly prompted some thought Oli.

Phil.
