Another one in the anti-terrorism series How hard is it to hunt a cow?
No need to test the fickle wind, her sense of smell is not acute.
No need to lay a cunning bait, it grows beneath her cloven feet.
No need to crawl in undergrowth, she is inured to human form.
No need to whisper soft and low, she knows the sound of human voice.
No need to follow tracks or trails, she stands there ready in the field.
How hard is it to hunt a cow? as hard as to kill sixty men.

The dumb creatures just stand there. I've chased a few in my time, but hunt them!!!!!!!!!! Talisker, bard of the secret word, either I, poor cow that I am, have missed your hidden meaning OR your child wrote this one. How hard is it to blow up a bus, really? I don't know, but I suspect it must be harder to manufacture one. How hard is it to plant a bomb in a church? Or throw a petrol bomb into a crowd? Much harder to build a church, feed a crowd. If I were a terrorist reading your poem, Oli, I would feel pretty ashamed. Wish I could sit one down and make him think. | Written by Talisker (1326 comments posted) 16th February 2007 | Right Chloe, I think, like most things it would lose something if explained prior to reading. Fish in a barrel, sitting ducks... but more than that, fish and ducks are hunted. Somehow hunting domesticated creatures (I could have said "to shoot your dog"), which we are the prime example of, is more wicked and cowardly. Oli | Written by Marybarry (237 comments posted) 16th February 2007 | Being from Ireland I have a minuscule insight into the mentality of the terrorist They believe in what they are fighting for. What the rest of the world believes doesnt count. Indoctrination is everything. If that succeeds you have them. It was so with the Catholic church and all the other churches. You've got to get them while they are young. As a child I hated the English. The nuns and priests helped me to hate them, I was indoctrinated. So too is it with our terrorists, they are brainwashed. People like Bush and co have made it light for terrorists. Because, politicians are the greatest TERRORISTS. Of course LEGAL terrorists. SORRY, I'm rambling. I hate what they do,but try to dig through the merde to understand(NOT ACCEPT) why they do it. marybarry | Written by Phil (6738 comments posted) 16th February 2007 | Keep plugging away Oli. You've plenty to say - and all valid so far. Depressing and scary thoughts for a scary world. Phil. | Great timeless vision Written by bwoz (125 comments posted) 16th February 2007 | Oli, With this you have captured a timeless metaphor for all wicked and evil that exists and has existed. these days it seems like we are all cows waiting to be mowed down at some point. How hard is it to hunt a cow? you ask, and your answer, as easy as to kill sixty men -- that really says it all, the message. All the lines before that are very good qualifiers to why a cow can't be hunted -- like saying its impossible to fight a mad man, or to insult a pig. Nice poem, should be in a history of poetry anthology some day.
