I'm re-posting because this has just been published!  And I'm getting paid for it! Hurrah!  Hurrah! My very first! It will be Editor's Pick in Flashquake - Spring edition, out 1st March

A pig cannot look at the sky,
can't bend his neck to even try.
Because of porcine physiognomy,
very few take up astronomy.

my husband, just to be bloody awkward, suggested the pig could lie on its back.

Congratulations on the publication!

Is this a post modern, pre-apocolyptic critique of present day values displayed by certain religous and political groups........or is it just a poem about pigs. Either way I love it :grin

And this is just the beginning!

I'm not one tiny bit surprised that your poem is Editor's pick; the only surprising thing is that you should have waited so long.

Good on you, Oli.

Now Oli - the truth about pigs and what

The Truth about Pigs

A pig has a snout for a nose –
But it’s something that he never blows.
His sense of smell is renowned
As he snuffles the ground
And he’s clever as everyone knows.

‘Tis true they don’t study the stars
So they don't know their Sun from their Mars
But with their eyes on the ground
Their thoughts are profound –
Thinking all human beings bizaare.

PS Congratulations to you Oli and do they want a follow-up verse?

Its only a tiny thing, and I hope it doesn't appear like crowing, I just had to share this little milestone with you all. After all, your feedback, comments and most of all, encouragement, have helped to keep me writing AND made me a better writer.
I thank you all from the very heart of my bottom!

If the prize was large, I would share it out (not got the cheque yet!) - but it will buy me a little bottle of bubbly and a book.

Cheers All,
Oli

My apologies, Oli, for having missed this. My congratulations too. I got my first cheque for writing in 1978. I framed a copy and it still hangs in our bedroom to remind me why I get up every morning at 5.00pm. Much more inspirational than alcohol.

Again Best of luck. The trick of the tail is to make sure the next cheque is not far behind and for twice as much. After that, writing becomes quite easy.

Slan!

I ought to add that I thought the picture you posted of yourself shows you as devilish handsome. Mind I had always imagined you a lot older.
