The Word
By bwoz
17 February 2007
Tried to say it without using the word.

The word is inevitable and so thin
The core hollow, void of meaning
So overused I cannot say it again
For it is spoken too often, too freely

It is more than just a “happy” word
It is a truth, much more complete
It has become so long overheard
It would be honest if more discrete

This is not a word to beguile
For that purpose, then, we have plundered
Not meant just to summon the smile
Instead, a power to silence the thunder

So heed not those weak, sappy songs
They mock how we perceive to live
Instead of “take it before it is gone”
We should see how much we can give

That is the word

Dear Bwoz.
Very good. If all had such a philosophy, the world would be a great place to live.

I'm feeling less than bright today. Love?

Whatever the word is, this is a fine poem.

Liked the sentiment of this very much. So over used its value can decline.

Of all your poetry, this is the first I've felt a strong pulse in. Only complaint - and it's probably more taste than criticism - is the lack of punctuation.

Is the word "emaciated"? - or anorexic? Do we get a prize for the right answer?
Prize worthy?

Witzl has it right. If this is a riddle then the word is Love. AS we all have read, some of the best love poems and love stories never actually use that word. We've worn it out with sappy pop songs aimed at hormonal kids with spending money.

thanks all, I'll try again.

This was a really interesting piece, the simplicity of it weaves another layer of complexity that had to stop me and make me think. Love is not just a word, love is not love until we do it.

nice.
