Ash Wednesday Poem
By Talisker
22 February 2007
For the uninitiated in roman catholic jiggery pokery - yesterday was Ash Wednesday.  On that day catholics let a priest "annoint" there forehead with mucky wet ash, whilst mumbling to them a reminder of their mortality with (something like)...

"you come from dust and to dust you will return" - Fine! Being dust will help me get post mortem revenge on my enemies!

Oli

To dust I will return,
return to you

I’ll settle on your table
an insidious fallout

Stick to your TV screen
with static glue

Accumulate like snow
across your desk

Swirl in your lungs
like vacuum cleaner bags

Irritate your eyes
on summer roads

And…

Even when I’m dead
I’ll still get up your nose

To add to the jiggery pokery - I think they use the ashes from the previous year's Palm Sunday crosses, mixed with a little holy (blessed tap) water.

When I go, I'll just be glad of the lie down, at least until I get roasted, ground and thrown to the four winds. I'll join the fun Oli. Beween us, we should know enough deserving victims to keep us going for an eternity - and so a new religion is born. Easy isn't it?

Enjoyed.

Great (or should I say Grate) stuff Oli Please may I join this new religion created by you and your disciple, Phil. Perhaps I could be Evian of the Water, the one who mixes it.
I loved the poem and the sentiments implied.
Dominus vobiscum !!
Cliff.

Cliff - I was thinking about 'roasted and ground.' Perhaps we should have sacred coffee, not water. Maybe: Cliff de Kenco? And then there were three. We'll have a schism pretty soon.
