Finally! Yes indeed, it's taken quite some time but the first Great Writing Anthology is finally on sale! The book contains some of the finest writing from the first 18-months of this website; a tempting selection of short stories, scripts and poetry to delight, amuse and frighten small animals.
Our thanks go out to all those writers whose work appears in this volume. A big hand then, to:
Maggie Cobbett, Gerard Connolly, Jean Day, Brian Fone, Alice French, Helen Gallery, Richard Hallows, Natasha Harding, Phillipa Hawkins, Simon Hughes, Andy Humphrey, Nina Jervis, Rowena Knight, Nikki Layzell, Stephen Leonard, Clo Marshall, Paul McDermott, Michelle Medhat, Brian Neal, Iheoma Obibi, Janet Parfitt, Jane Powers, Alan Pritchard, Trevor Ross, Gillian Scadden, Julian Shaw, Bernie Shelton, Rachel Sherratt, Alison Tillman, Ann Voityuk, Ken Wake, Josie Whitehead, Roger Woodcock, Joshua Woods...and a few others besides.
In case you're wondering, the final selections were chosen based not only on our own preferences, but on secret soundings taken with a few representative GW luminaries. We think they've exhibited impeccable taste in uncovering a few unsung gems from our daily torrent of wordsmithery. Although, if when reading the book you chance across that poem you truly regretted ever writing, you've only your fellow members to blame.
The papery-form of the anthology is made possible by our friends at
Lulu.com , truly a wonderous bunch of people who are only to ready to let folks like us (or you) make it big in publishing. Thanks to them, 169 polar-white pages, spattered with ebony-black ink, and all lovingly-wrapped in a jubliantly-coloured cover could be yours. It makes a handsome addition to any coffee-table, or a perfect gift for any occassion.
Just 5.95 of the Queen's pounds (plus postage), £1 of which goes to keeping your favourite creative writing community on the air.So if you're a fan of the writing and writers around here, if you'd like to support the future of the Great Writing website, or even if you'd just like to get a flavour of Lulu's services, then please buy a copy of the book. It really is pretty good.
And just before we return to our regularly scheduled broadcast, let's just make things completely clear. All the printing, dispatch, customer service for the anthology is handled by Lulu.com . That means if your order doesn't turn up, or you have credit card issues, or any other problem with your order, the people you need to contact live at www.lulu.com, not here.

Best of luck to anyone trying to order this book! I have tried several times over the last few days but Lulu are obviously experiencing major problems with their ordering service,(see their online forum). That apart, congrats to the team for getting the book out there in the workplace. Lets hope it sells well! happy writing Woody |

I just got my book today and I would really like to thank Mike Atherton and Helen McLennan for their hard work on the book. And I must say the poem on page 17 is fantastic. |

My copy arrived today and I think it's beautifully produced. Thank you, Eds. Just one minor quibble - the misspelling of 'tragedy' on the back cover, but I expect you're grinding your teeth over that already. |

The copy I ordered has turned up in double quick time. Congratulations to all involved in the writing and the production. It's a real achievement. I have really enjoyed reading almost everything in there. I think that's the Shakespearean spelling of tradgedy as a subtle reference to the timeless nature of the works that make up the anthology. |

| A quick question - do Lulu books have ISBNs? I'm just wondering from the point of view of my CV, it would be handy to reference it properly, but there doesn't appear to be one listed on the book's web page. |

I love you all, especially the editors. I'm still waiting for a call from Simon & Schuster, though. |

Hello, I’ve just got the book! I am INCREDIBLY happy and thankful to all those who took pains to publish it! I’m absolutely sure it means a lot to everyone. My work is included in the book, and I come from Ukraine. So it’s a great honour for me. It’s amazing to be a part of this world called “Great Writing”. Thanks guys!

| For not making the mistake of shoving too much in the book. Everything is well laid out and readable. I am very pleased to be included in this attractive book. |
Quite right Richard! Written by Ed (14 comments posted) 14th April 2007 |
Curse these damnedable modern spelling conventions! Though the rest of you may be pleased to know that this (and a few other) spelling strangenesses have been expunged from the copies of the Anthology now on sale. Those of you with genuine first editions should hang on them as you would a misprinted Penny Black, or expurgated version of Olsen's Standard Book of British Birds (the one without the gannet). |
