Judith and Nebudchanezzer’s General .

Patterjack’s wonderful poem Out of the Winter Darkness brought to mind the biblical story of Judith and how she saved her country from the Assyrians by slaying their General and displaying his head at the city gates. This inspired a rather lighthearted view of the story.

Holofernes was an ombibulus chappie.
He longed for Jude and sex was his plan.
Hung-over he was feeling unhappy
And collapsed like a broken old man.

The Assyrian lay in his deep drunken sleep
   But Judith was feeling unkind.
She disrobed him with care (and took a sly peep)
Decapitation was there in her mind.

Judith was charged with saving her kin
From this General who ravaged her land
She wielded his sword and showing great skill
Brought it down on his neck just as planned.

She returned to Bethulia, next daybreak,
Where the citizens heralded her glory.
She had cured Holofernes’ headache,
But her method was out and out gory.

I think she was BBS's type of woman. She could do with Judith in her latest duel with Givitsum over on short stories.

Those were the days, eh?

Perhaps you can rewrite the whole bible? It's a lot funnier this way ;)

Boy, those Old Testament ladies were a pretty tough bunch! Queen Esther wasn't exactly put together with spit, either. And then there was Delilah.

I loved your line: 'Decapitation was there in her mind.' Fledermaus is right: if the Bible were written like this (oh, the sacrilege) it would be a lot more fun.
