Cherry Tree Frogs
By Talisker
14 March 2007
This morning I awoke with a vision

of frogspawn

tadpoles

cherry blossom drifting

onto a march-cold pond

Like the tadpoles, my vision grew legs.

Hungry froglets

munched the tasty tapioca

until it was done

then feasted on pink petals

With a hint of autumn cherries

on cold black tongues

supercharged babies

grew to giant, rose coloured

cherry tree frogs

I hope this is just a description of a dream, if not, I'm completely at sea here Oli.

at sea. I loved this poem Oli. I liked your imagination and the simple way you put it. Yes, perhaps like a dream! Perhaps

I liked this. Had a really strong sense of deja vu reading it though - really bizarre, stayed with me all day yesterday.

That first stanza is beautiful.

I'm not sure you've got all the line breaks in the right places but I thought this very good.

Metamorphesis

yep, I agree with Elli on this one, the poem rewards closer reading. Some very nice nature imagery, I see the colours clearly and feel the March cold, and a theme of imagined transformations, from embryos to giants, justified by their greed perhaps - love the frogspawn/tapioca comparison.

Short, fast-actioned lines in stanzas 2&3 work well, rapid feeding and rapid growth, but perhaps lines 2,3&4 of stanza 1, run together, would give a dreamy atmosphere of awakening???

Love it, though.
:)
