Griff

again, short. (you noticing a pattern yet?) this is about my beloved dog griff. if you hadn't guessed! xxxxxxxxxxxx

When we first got you, you were so small! You fell out of our hands, into our laps. You’d fall on the floor. But instead of jumping up, like you do now, you were shy, and you curled up, eyes wide, worried, but with the beginnings of a bond, glinting like shells at the bottom of the sea.

Now you are like a king, in the middle of his reign, noble, head held high. Wise with the knowledge of broken bones, fights with elders and scraps with the cats around the corner. You weren’t always like this. You would hide under my bed, scratching at the worn carpet until you fell asleep.

What I love best is your front legs, all bony, black and white, wrapped round my neck, your eyes averted, until it’s too much for you and you lick me till I cant breathe with laughter and I know you’re laughing too.

Mum says your pugs smell like biscuits, I agree, your little ears are reminiscent of childhood, and we know, all the time, security is main priority.

One day Griff, I know you’ll speak to me. I know what you’ll say. You’ll say “bone”.

... that you are going to fill up the site with stuff that a six-year old could write!

Ignore moonglum. S/He appears to be a cunt.
I really liked this little story, as anyone who has ever had a dog probably will. It seems to be very autobiographical, Griff seems like a great dog, you convey this well. There is all sorts of little anecdotes, that the reader can only imagine, contained within this piece. I'm not sure if they should be written or not.
Anyways, dogs are great, and this story (vignette?) was also great.
Hi again Rose

Your dog sounds lovely. I agree with alamo that this story will appeal to anybody who has had a dog.

Not for me this time. I have to confess, I'm not a dog owner and never have been, so perhaps my lack of connection stems from that. I do think this lacks a centre of focus though. The theme might suit poetry.

Re: moonglum. I wouldn't go as far as to say he or she is a cunt, I've never met him/her. However. I'd take a review written by the aforesaid with a pinch of salt until s/he learns to justify his/her comments.

Hi Rose. I loved this little tale - I have a dog, a very scruffy Jack Russell Terrier called Bob - and I can identify with your feelings. He's just like one of the family to me.

Moonglum - if you didn't like this, fine - but a little CONSTRUCTIVE criticism would have been better.

Alamo - I admire your sentiments, but I don't think that kind of language is necessary, and I don't care to see it when I come on here. :)

It's a little cute for my taste, but it made me smile to think of my own dogs. I'm an only child, but I grew up with canine siblings (one of which was bigger than me until I was about 12).
