When real boys shoes had camoflage packaging & a compass built into the inside! There I stand flamingo like On one leg left foot shoed right, grey-socked peering into the heel of a stout black brogue Navigation is a serious business when you are nine Oli 24/03/07 |

My mum always insisted on buying boring Clark's shoes - so as not to damage my feet. Result: fallen arches, a developng bunion and childhood memories of taunts. All my pals in what we used to call beetle crushers, and me in sensible Clark's, sans compass. Perhaps utility shoes are making a come back Oli. You can get shoes that light up and shoes with wheels in the heels. Unfortunately, the only place that seems suitable for wheeled shoes is the supermarket's smooth floors. Little buggers flying all over the place. Almost as bad as the aging ladies who part their trolleys across the aisle for a chat. (I'm sure there are no aging ladies here who woud dream of doing such a thing.) Phil. | Written by Phil (6730 comments posted) 24th March 2007 | Doh! Just reread the title. Could you get Clark's shoes with a compass. What did I miss out on? Phil. | Written by coosh (868 comments posted) 24th March 2007 | | Yep, the Clark's had the compass - the compass with the paw prints came with the Pathfinders - don't remember the beetle crushers - most of the boys had Doc Martens, and the bigger the lace-up, the harder you were - obviously. | Written by JourneyAtNight (314 comments posted) 24th March 2007 | Great little piece. Just to spoil the line of boyish memories....I remember having a pair of Clarks tinker-bell shoes with pink soles. They came with a key that opened a little glittery compartment filled with hearts an stars. It was like magic. I was gutted when I lost the key.
