Cow in the Road

cows

Old Herford on the road
In the middle of the mud
Stands her ground, chews cud
And shakes off a worldly load

Her frightened calf runs about
In the hedge beside the lane
New and lost in the traffic vein
She can’t climb in or jump out

Stay still child, and let me go
I’ll bow and creep right on by
A slow reflection in your shining eye
We’ll leave the morning just so

patterjack is right! I've been in the situation bwoz describes, ie having to shift an animal off the road in order to drive by, but it is not a common occurrence even in the rural area where I live. more often I've been trying to do this because the animals were mine and had escaped my control!
