Where do they come from?
By Snodlander
27 March 2007
With apologies to Isaac Asimov

Where do they come from, these ideas of yours?

Where do you buy them, online idea stores?

Do you shoot acid or smoke funny weed?

Have you a tumour that makes your brain bleed?

Imps come a-calling when you’re in your bed,

Whispering secrets they heard from the dead?

Deal with the devil you pay with your soul?

Fairy Godmother fulfilling her role?

Does alien life inhabit your mind

And fill you with thoughts till you’re almost blind?

Is it a blessing or is it a curse?

Can you just write prose or put it in verse?

What are your secrets, can you reveal them?

The answer is plain, I merely steal them!

Glad to hear it , snoddy, it's by far and away the most successful method. It saves on all that tedious thinking.I never do anything else. My last 2 post I've pinched from Phil and Steve.
And it's true that to steal from one source is plagiarism but to steal from many is research.
Sorry to be thick but how does Asimov feature in this?
cheers

Asimov was constantly asked where he got his ideas from. As a lad I read an anthology of his where he had a limerick called "I just make them up, see?"

I get mine from twisting reality. Or dreaming -- which is essentially twisting reality while you're asleep. Some are practically handed to you on a platter. A neighbor of ours was over recently with an incredible story. Just at the point I was wondering how I could twist it around so that I could write about it in such a way that she'd never recognize herself, she said, very suddenly, "Do you think you could write about me?" Hallelujah -- that's out there waiting for me when I finish all of the stuff I'm working on!'

Funny poem, Snodlander.
Not necessary to steal them

The ideas come from everywhere: in the garden, from the radio, from talking to people or seeing things. Mr Minute came from Radio 4 story at 3.45 pm. Just coming home in the car and I heard the name "Mr Minute". My poem on slavery came from the BBC2 programme about slavery last night. The Parenting Class: The News, Radio 4 11 pm one night. ha ha. The Moorhens? In my garden. Hope this helps. ha ha

Enjoyed this Snodders. I reckon we all borrow/steal ideas from each other, mix them up and repackage them in our own way.

I have never stolen an idea in my entire life, and to prove it I have written this 'Original' poem.
"Where do they come from, these ideas of yours?
Where do you buy them, online idea stores?"
Actually I will stop there, because the third line was a bit too close for comfort!
Regards man,
Esteeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeehhhhhhhhhh.
