Writing Courses
By CliffBowes

I have completed two courses with the Cambridge Extension College, namely Introduction to the Arts and Creative Writing. They were both exellent.  I would like to improve my writing and have been looking at The Writers Bureau Ltd. Have any of you had experience of this Company?? if so do you reckon they are any good. I don't fancy wasting almost £300 if they are no good. Any advice would be appreciated.

Writing courses

For what it's worth, I've done an online writing course and a distance learning course. I'm now considering doing an MA in Creative writing (online).

With the distance learning course, it was ok but there was no time for questions (on my part), and the tutor wanted to move on from one assignment to the next. There was no opp. of going over an assignment especially if you didn't get it!

With the online course, again this was similar. Although I received lots of info with re to parts of speech, which was always my weakest link at school, and lots extra info on characterisation, plotting, structure etc. The Wrters Bureau has been around for years but I would ask them loads of questions before I commit myself. You should also check Open University couses. I hear the writing courses here are good. Good Luck!!

I'm still surprised that in Britain one can do an MA in creative writing. How does that work? Writing is a craft, not a science, is it? Wish we had something like that here though...
