For a little local colour in your writing, you may like to pepper your prose with idiom. Only, your story is set in South Central LA and you come from Cleckheaton. So what do you do? You pop on over to What Does That Mean? which looks set to become a great respository for the meaning and origin of such phrases as "Jeezum Crow", "Chilly Bin" and "Hilary Duff" (the mind boggles).

There isn't loads of stuff there just yet, but the site is a Wiki, which for the uninitiated means that it can be updated by all and sundry. And since it doesn't yet list entries for "Come 'ead", "gewin rohbn" or "Getting off at Edge Hill", there's surely a golden opportunity for some of you.
