I love open ended epigrams.

A writer of a sort,
Assaulter of  the right.
Say what I feel I ought
And not what I just might.

Ah? A stance against (self-)censorship? Short and powerful, but not entirely clear...

It's a self portrait.

Thanks for your comments,

I think, a little pretentious.

Don't most people try and say what they think they ought? Whether they are right or not is another matter.

"Write what you think you might
For it never pays to pander,
And there's no rewards to write
For those who only gander."

Unless of course you are concerned about God looking favourably on your work, in which case ignore the above.
Pretentious? No, seriously I like it loads!

Best wishes
Steve
Pretentious?

I think it's modest

"A writer of a sort" - i.e. no Great Poet/Author.

Where are the pretensions and if so what to?

It's an Epigram:A short poem (often paradoxical.)

Your post got caught in the cross-fire.

Glad you liked it.

Your second line suggests you are a champion of the wrong.

If so, could you have a word with my Mother- in law on my behalf?

I'm a bit of a rebel and have been been in the past accused of not doing things the "right way."

Ah, now here lies a conundrum relevant to this site. Do we say what we think we ought to and pander to people's vanity - or do we say what we might say and on occasion offend?

I'm of the latter - though I have no wish to offend. I don't think this one is pretentious, but it is a little inward looking. Daft thing to say about an epigram written about yourself, I know (I'm assuming it's about yourself) but there you go.

It is auto-biographic however in a way its a play with words and rhymes
