My Anna
By Sunny
26 April 2007
This is set in South Africa, so apologies if some dialect is lost in translation.

Boiling her maize on my seven-inch Aga

Ma’s cutlery lies dormant

‘cos she uses her fingers to eat

like a monkey

wrapping her pap around a fried egg,

like a fajita

but I don’t think she knows what those are

She pairs my socks,

My old size-five tekkies
on her feet

over nylons

She folds my underwear

and steals Ma’s sugar

My Anna

apology accepted - I missed a few words, sure, so I may have a wrong handle on who Anna is; but the picture you paint is both funny and gentle.
