Sonneteering Justified
By patterjack

Once I  was  hooked  on  Haiku  , but  now  it seems  I  am stuck  on Sonnets

                 Sonneteering  Justified.

         In the  sixteenth century it was the norm

         for the educated of the time to write

         and use the sonnet's laudatory form

         to assuage the pains of any lover's plight .

         They left Petrarch and Spenser in the past;

         were freed of metric bonds by William's  skill  ,

         whose stanzas sang , whose lines so neatly cast,

         bind hearts and minds of all his readers still.

         Poets Augustan , Metaphysical and Romantic

         followed the pattern , but  with wider ranges

         and showed to the excessively pedantic

         a form still vigorous throughout those changes .

         To all , for their abilities in creation

         I offer this humble sonnet in dedication .

I don't think I could even begin to write a worthy sonnet Brian. You on the other hand, never seem to produce a dud. (Unless your 'recycle bin' is full of those!)

Phil.
