Fat is beautiful

Fat is beautiful. Relax rejoice.
No longer listen to that inner voice
That says each time you feast,
“Ooh you nasty wicked beast!”
Fatties of the world unite,
Yours alone has come the right
To rise with resplendance fair,
And raise your Mars bars in the air.

To the chip shop and the take away.
Let the slimmies rue the day
They declared slim waistes far better
Long the cause of your corsetted fetter.
Down the do-nuts and sticky buns.
Look at the slimmies the’re the ones
Who wrapped in chains and misery
Endure endless rounds of dietary.

Tear those diet sheets apart,
You knew all along, deep in your heart,
That life had much more to offer
Than lettuce leaves and carrot coffer.
Weight watchers of the world beware!
The time has gone when once you were
The scrutinous eye of society,
Straining to observe with noteriety,
The tell tall bulges above waiste bands,
The squelchy thighs and podgy hands
Yes your number’s on the wall!
Fatties now have conquered all,
And all that once was restrained,
Held elasticated and pained,
Is now set free, released to swell,
Listening not to words that tell
Of conforming standards to adopt,
Of what to eat and then what not.

Souls set free from constant muddle,
Find deserving kin with more to cuddle.
Hearts fast bound in guilt confliction,
Find delight in gourmet confection.
Chips and chocolate once banned
Find joy and cheer within the land
Yes the time has at long last come,
When fatties in blissful peace can rome,
Can raise their heads without fear and doubt.
And say peace at last,

Then let it all hang out

Read this in Tom Baker's Little Britain voice and it's a treat. A few typos to sort, but nothing a quick edit wouldn't cure.

Fun piece.

This is very well written but I would disagree with the sentiments expressed. I've had a weight problem for many years and am just dealing with it now. I've been told I have a 98% chance of having a heart attack in the next ten years, compared to other women in my age group. I look in the mirror and no-one could tell me I look better out of proportion than in. Fat is not beautiful and it's not a feminist issue - it's a health issue for everyone. If the tone were more "anti size zero", "anti dieting obsession" I'd find it more sympathetic, but to me it simply comes across as "eat all you like, get as fat as you please and don't worry about heart disease, blood pressure problems and early death".

I do like the images though - "raise your Mars Bars in the air" especially. I just think the message is dangerous!

regards,

This poem, on a quick first scan, reads everything I love that writing this type of poetry allows.
The first two stanzas are definately my favourite, they're a bit more raw and descriptive than the last two.
I went to weight-watchers for four years when I was a fat teenager...'ef-'em. Damn, I want some chocolate now.
Agreed

A fun poem, but as I was away on holiday when you put this on the website, I missed it, hence the late review. Well done. I'll definitely raise my Mars bar in the air - to you!
