White lace and promises - chapter 1

I thought that those of you who have been following my previous stories may be interested in the beginning of Jon and Donna's life together, so here's how it all started....

Chapter 1

It seemed that at the moment, in the flat, two was company, three was a crowd.  Mike was sitting in the kitchen, drinking a cup of tea, listening to the laughter and talking in the living room, and getting more and more browned off by the minute.  Jon and Donna were having a quiet night in, only Mike had nowhere else to go that particular night, and was trying to make himself scarce.

"It's no good!" he said to himself.  "I can't hold on any longer, I've got to go!"

He walked into the living room, glancing at the two figures entwined together on the sofa.  He was not quite sure where to look, but it did not really matter - they were not looking at him!  Suddenly, he heard, quite distinctly:

"Oh, Jon!"

"Oh, Donna!"

"Oh, God!" said Mike, giving them a withering look, making them both helpless with laughter when he had gone.  He came back into the living room five minutes later, announcing that he was going to bed out of the way!

"Maybe we could do the same..." said Jon, giving her the look that always reminded her why she fell in love with him in the first place.

"I can't!" she protested, albeit weakly.  "I've got to go, now, it's getting late. My mum will wonder where I am"

"She knows where you are!" he said, reasonably.  "Please, Donna!"

"You are insatiable!"

She tried to stand up, but he pulled her down again, and kissed her before she could protest again. She finally managed to break away, and sat there looking at him, her hands locked around his neck.

"Why is it when you kiss me like that, you could do anything you wanted to me and I wouldn't care?" she said.

"Anything?" he said, giving her a smile that made her heart turn somersaults.

"Not tonight!" she said, firmly, finally breaking free.  "I really do have to go - seriously, or mum will go nuts."

After he had walked Donna home, and made sure she was safe, Jon made his way back to the flat.  He had not taken a coat, and he was not best pleased when it started to rain.  He arrived home absolutely soaked to the skin.  He made straight for the bathroom, and had a nice hot shower.  He did not realise that Mike had got up to make himself a cup of tea because he could not sleep, and walked into the living room with just a towel wrapped around his middle.  Mike's eyes widened.

"Oh, Jon!" he said.  "I never knew you cared!"

"You bugger!!"

Jon went a very fetching shade of pink - Mike could have fried an egg on his face.

"Make sure the towel doesn't slip!" said Mike, as he hurried into the bedroom to change into something a little less revealing!  He came back and sat next to Mike, who opened his mouth to speak:

"Not a word!" said Jon, pointing at him.  "Not a bloody word - or I'll separate you from your breath!"

"I wasn't going to say anything!" said Mike, knowing that he most definitely would have!

As they both sat there, Mike noticed that Jon had suddenly become very thoughtful, and rather pensive.

"What's up, mate?" he said.  "Penny for them!"

"I love Donna so much!"

Jon looked at Mike, the latter could not quite work out what the expression on his face meant.  "I sometimes worry that it's all too good to be true, and it could end tomorrow!"

"Why on earth should it?" said Mike.  "You can see how much she loves you, you've only got to look at her when you're together to see that."

"I've been thinking about this for a long time" said Jon, not even noticing his tea was getting cold.  "I want to ask her to marry me - do you think she will?"

"One way to find out" replied Mike.  "Ask her!"

"What if she says no?"

Jon got up and looked out of the window.  If she did say no, his whole world would cave in - he could not bear the thought of it.  All of a sudden, for some inexplicable reason, he felt like crying.  He desperately wanted to ask Donna to marry him - she was his heart and soul, and he would be lost without her, and if she said yes, he would be the happiest man alive,  but what if she said no?  How would he feel then?  He did not want to contemplate that.  She was always telling him how much she loved him,  so he could see no reason why she would turn him down, so why was he thinking like this?  Maybe what he had said to Mike just a while ago had some truth in it - was it all too good to be true?  There was only one way to put an end to all his wondering - tomorrow, he would ask Donna to be his wife.

Another treat in store. I'm glad you're posting this.

Good beginning, although I'm not convinced two blokes would be quite so openly 'gushy' in front of each other - at least without a lot of Micky taking.

Moving on
