Your Clothes
By donna73
21 May 2007
After losing my husband in 1997, i moved again and tried to start a new, i found a bag of clothes.

Six months later, i found your clothes on the shelf today,
The ones you wore that certain day.
That day the kids and i went out,
On my return i had to scream and shout.
No mobile phone, no-one about,
My screams got louder as i tried to shout.
Police, ambulance, neighbours too,
They laid you down next to the loo.
I retrace your steps with the fag in the sink,
Did you have tears as you blinked?
It took time for what you did,
Before i left i rolled your cigs.
All set up and wrote a note,
Climbed the ladder stepped off and choked.
I sit and wonder if your looking down,
Watching your daughter run around.
Steven she looks so much like you,
Why ? we all loved you.
It's easy for me to say i'm okay,
But i don't know after today.
I forgot i hadn't thrown them out,
Put on the shelf without a doubt.
I can switch off, then it comes flooding back,
Think i've done well up to scratch.
But what do i do with your clothes now?
There all i got, but i don't know how,
How to let go of someone who's not there,
The one who left us without a care.
Thing is i can't let go,
As i know you loved me so.
I'll figure it out in time one day,
Why your wings spread and you flew away...
