exert from chapter 5 when Patrick is forced to reconsider his skeptisism. 'Im sorry I just can't buy that cr p' ‘Very well, I shall show you what is coming' Suddenly everything changed, and in a blunt and jarring instant Patricks world turned upside down and inside out. The most terrifying noise he could have possibly imagined instantly enveloped him and a dark wave of impossible hatred crashed against his form. He felt the roar in immense volume, exploding as a cry of unending wrath, that howled like a hurricane and cut through his being with razors of black intent.
‘Jesus, Jesus' he repeated as he panted heavily.' what the hell was that? What the f ck did you do to me??!?' his chest heaving as he took great shaking gasps of air. 'I am sorry' said Paul, ‘I did not wish to distress you like this' ‘Distress me'? He shouted while still breathing heavily.' Distress me? I out to have you f cking locked up!' what the hell just happened?!?
‘Come' said Paul, gently kneeling and placing a hand on Patrick's back. Patrick felt warmth then, emanating from Pauls hand. It seemed to remove some of the darkness that remained with him, but not all, he knew now that what he just felt would be with him for the rest of his life, however long, or short (he was beginning to wonder) that might prove to be. Paul helped him to his feet, displaying again a physical strength otherwise hidden beneath his slight exterior.‘Lets get you a drink shall we' he said comfortingly, before leading him back into the drawing room and onto the wide armchair in front of the fire. Stoking the fire briefly, Paul went over to a drinks cabinet and opening the draw pulled a large and quite magnificent decanter from inside, before proceeding to add two very healthy measures of an exceedingly rare cognac. Paul waked back over and handing Patrick one of the glasses, which was taken by trembling hands, sat down in the chair opposite. Patrick took some of the sweet liquor to his lips and upon swallowing it instantly felt its medicinal power taking effect, as a warm richness spread through his chest and stomach.Patrick looked to him with weary, pleading eyes. Please listen to what I am about to tell you carefully' began Paul ‘Some of it will be very difficult for you to believe or even to comprehend, but you must trust me, it is of uttermost importance.' And then he began.
