Let Silence Speak
By madeupname
29 May 2007

Ssssh! No words now!
What should speak
This inexpressible sadness?
Tragedy not explained
Except in the deep mind.
What phrases give it meaning?
Or brush sweep
The hurt onto canvas?
No melody sweet enough
And tears will last
Only a brief moment
In ageless sorrow.
Silence is enough
And I will let it speak

The good thing: Tragedy is a difficult thing to speak about, but when you say "silence is enough" I would have to disagree if you are the victim of tragedy. People who counsel those who have suffered tragedy tell you that you must speak about it. My husband suffered great tragedy and bottled it up. He had awful problems later that needed help. To the poem itself: I think it might be better if it was split up into definable verses because it just rolls along from one phrase to another without focus. Only a small thing, but I hope it helps. Well done. A good subject.

I totally agree with you on having to express those things which have really hurt you. I wrote this more from the point of view of a person who doesnt want to speak just yet because they think noone will really understand fully or they will put their own interpretation on it. I also agree it rambles abit, I might redo the general idea in a better way. :grin
