a piece about a woman who wants real love but meets only roving men

There was despair hanging over my head
When you rowed your boat next to me

You reached out a hand flirting
And I strained to grasp it

You paused –
Asked if I believed you were the One

Because I was neck-deep in the eddy
I believed in miracles at once

You seemed gladdened by my answer
So you leaned forward

For the sliminess in your palm,
I still couldn’t get a grip and you rowed on.
