Hot off the press!  Another in my "Check These Out" series (I'm a checkout operator at Tesco).

Background - a heavily pregnant girl comes to my checkout with a "Pregnancy & Birth" magazine - its like "Knitting & Crochet" X "Hello" X "Vogue" X "Gynaecologist's Journal" (?) ...

Of course she is unaware of Oli's recently acquired broodiness!  Bitch!  (kidding - she was sweet!)

She wears her condition like a medal;

belly exposed, gravid breasts unfettered.

How could she know a pride so fine,

so natural, would torture me?

“Pregnancy and Birth” – I scan her glossy prize,

adorned with glowing fecundity, smiles,

cradled abdomens - tight as drums.

Mirroring her contentment, in expression.

crying, yearning within,

to share what is not mine.

We are in different dimensions,

I so close, she over that fleshy hill,

and far away.

Hello there, Ol' Reprobate!

I thought you were supposed to stay out of Tesco? You know what happens when you go in there. I tried to give you that advice when I reviewd I POD. You just won't listen, will you! Mark my words, no good will come of it.

No matter. If it means you brighten up this turgid forum with that super Celtic wit, sign up for the nightshift pronto. You've got a proper job, have you? All you need now is to get yourself a proper football club and all your problems will be over!

Lovely bit of stylish wit. Just keep it decent, will yous. The Pope's listenin'.

Slan!

Oooooh - you little devil you!

And Tesco's thought you were concentrating on the takings. What takings? You'd never guess what the man behind the till is thinking. I'm worried now! ha ha Well written Oli.

Good to see you back Oli. Talking of Popes and checkouts, it could be the the modern unspoken confessional. Certain purchaases give away our 'sins' and the guy at checkout absolves them by the exchange of cash. Sorry - waffle.

Liked this. Uncomplicated in style, yet touching and immediate.
