Tom Harris, she read, killed his grandfather in what appears to have been a bizarre revenge killing. He was arrested and charged, but maintained to his death that the heinous crime he comitted was a reaction to his grandfather murdering his sister. However, the only evidence that could be produced in his defence, was a diary, which the judge ruled was insufficient evidence. Sadly, therefore, Tom Harris will always be known as the last member of this quiet, rural community to be given the death penalty. There was a little note in the margin, written at a right angle to the text. Hannah turned the book, and couldn’t help laughing. This guy couldn’t tell his arse from his elbow. She felt cheered suddenly, and she wasn’t entirely sure why. The car pulled away, and headed back to the house. The sun shone, and if she listened hard, she could almost hear him laughing.
