Zephaniah

Another expression of my love for the "People's Poet"


I have this problem with Ben Zephaniah,
which is not to say that I’d set  him afiah!
Or take out his white teeth with old rusty pliah!
Or stick his big dreads in a deep fat friah!
Or hold under bath water ‘til he expiah!
No! That is beyond the extent of my iah.

But I do find his versification is diah,
the self-professed people's poetic Messiah.
You know people, Oli is no Jeremiah!
Sure, lots of my musings are know to misfiah,
Oftimes my morals just sink in the miah!
I’m completely unknown in Nottinghamshiah!

To “dis” brother poets I have no desiah,
but some voices boom-boom without amplifiah.
Artists our young ones would choose to admiah,
should look out not in, not loah, but hiah!
At risk of remaining a social pariah,
please, just don’t dub Oli -  “The New Zephaniah!”

Oli, dear, never fear - we shall not compare you to Mr Z, the people's poet (which people?). Certainly not where you can hear anyway :grin.

BZ: I don't know if it's a cultural or age thing - but I can't find much to admiah. I confess, I haven't looked at a great deal of his stuff, but then the only inspiration his stuff on the web gave me was to surf off. I think you've gone easy. 
 
Incidentally, BBS is from Nottinghamshiah - how about Clackmannonshiah?

Hey, I know you and I'm from south Nott's and Woody knows you and he's from north Nott's so you are, infact, known the whole length of the county. 
 
Yes I know what you mean, you did lay it on with a trowel but then so does he. You showed up his short comings more succinctly that any highbrow critique
