Liquid Pain
By Walloo
20 June 2007
Inspired by a drunken walk home from one of my benders!

Walking through the dark and dripping streets
Water reeling in the angry skies
Water glazing stone beneath my feet
Water smudging glass before my eyes

Liquid ever swirling through my brain
Ether, water, rivers of my dreams
Roaring down to unknown steamy drains
Oceans fall and earth cracks at the seams

As melodies these noises could be loved
Like flesh it's texture much adored
But mad attempts to change the view just proved
That water did not love, just swelled and roared.

Despair had been my doom while on the sea
Those empty worlds my only goalless aim
Despair rewarding efforts to be free
Adventure leaving habits old and lame

To find a place where water silent stood
Yet would not stagnate with its lazy ways
Began a dream that in it's beauty could
Transport me from the city to the bays.

And so I left the world of peace and love
An outcast from the human realms therein
And carved a course within the space above
To make it prosper, free from pain and sin.

Sorry, I lost interest around the third stanza. But then I'm not a great lover of poetry, as my work shows.

Best wishes

Thanks Steve for taking an interest but if you don't like poetry why bother putting up a review.

I like poetry.

I have to confess, this didn't grip me. I too lost interest as I read. I think you stretched the metaphor far too far. In the end, I felt it was more about the language used than the meaning imparted.

I tripped over the rhythm in the penultimate verse.

Sorry I can't be more positive. Others may see this differently.

Phil.
