Fighting for Peace
By maipenrai
01 July 2007
I met this fellow Manc in a bar in Gabon, he was a soldier in the French Foreign Legion and that's where this come's from, he was some pissed of young man, what he thought was not what he had found or what he was doing.

it was in the darkness
where he lost his soul
within the fetid smell
of rottenness,
fighting for freedom
fighting for peace,
it's like fucking
for virginity
just a joke.

the freedom song
he sang before
so much nonsense now
just another joke,
he told me he fought for the
red, white and blue
and gave himself for
freedoms flag,
but he knew that
worst of all
he gave himself for
fuck all at all.

The anger and resignation comes through in this very well. I don't now if it's original, but I liked lines 6, 7,8 and 9.

Phil.
Thanks
