Its not what you do - its the way that you do it...
The supermarket is my cathedral.
The checkout is my pew.
Customers are my gods.
Mindfulness is my route to redemption.
To focus fully on each simple act:
Greeting – to smile, kind words, connection;
Scanning – to be accurate and efficient;
Packing – consideration of needs;
Requesting and receiving – payment with thanks;
Parting – to consummate all transactions;
Seven hours in this mindful zone,
removed from thoughts of life and love,
restrained within these willing bonds,
well defined,
I am at peace.
Service, my religion.

Not a bite, but a nibble - and possibly too subtle for tiddlers to notice. Or - I've got it completely wrong! Enjoyed them both. The bowling ball can be taken many different ways, I have my preference. All the best, Phil.

I'm glad to here that you have found salvation. I just hope you have found your own way and not been brainwashed by any smart talking Asda evangalist. Caesar might have claimed we are a nation of shopkeepers but you have taken that one step further here. "Service, my religion" I'm trying hard to believe it,Oli. I really am. cheers jane | Written by fellpony (1603 comments posted) 2nd July 2007 | Having worked in further education for several years the middle of this distracted me into thinking about NVQs. However, if you're happy in your work it's not for me to take the P, after all I thought I was having fun trying to keep a horse and carriage clean in the middle of a muddy field in a thunderstorm yesterday.
