Koinange’s Movie
By uche
10 July 2007
Jeff Koinange was dismissed from CNN after his explosive docu-drama on the Niger Delta, and this is a mere trailer...

I watched it –

his dramatic face backing
the unceremonious drop of the sun down
the mangroves

speedboats and frothing waters
ski-masked men spitting bullets
into the air

the swollen skin of a Filipino dulled
in patches of red and blue

23 other Filipinos
bruised and bound like bundles of firewood

sipping Pepsi
I watched  –
like many Nigerians used to thrillers.

Powerful piece with a powerful ending.

Hadn't even heard of the guy before I read this, so I did a Google search search on him.

I'm a little confused. He was pushed because the content of his piece didn't suit US oil barrons - or - he was pushed because of accusations involving date rape?

Phil.

both, Phil...

the nigerian govt threatened to withdraw our Heart of Africa project,a multimillion dollars deal with CNN, if they fail to sanction Koinange becos of the expose on niger delta: it affected our national image poorly...so the date rape was the last straw break the camel's back
