Writing a lot today ;) Hopefully the quantity doesn't influence the quality negatively...
Dark clouds and cold rain
Walls seperate them
Devout Catholic
Pious Protestant
Blue skies, burning sun
Walls seperate them
Religious Muslim
And godfearing Jew
Bottles, stones, bricks
Bullets, teargas, bombs
Who started this then?
And who must end it?
The sons of Adam
The daughters of Eve
Killing eachother
Over words of hope |
Written by Phil (6681 comments posted) 12th July 2007 | And so it goes on, world without end. So it was, so it is, so it will be. For ever and ever, Amen. This bit sums it all up: The sons of Adam The daughters of Eve Killing eachother Over words of hope
| Written by Fledermaus (3246 comments posted) 12th July 2007 | Thanks Phil. Ridiculous isn't it: All those people believe in the same God, their prophets preached peace, and what are they themselves doing? | Written by Phil (6681 comments posted) 12th July 2007 | I'm not sure they believe in god at all, rather they believe in religion. Different thing entirely. My view: Gods were invented by humanity to explain the world. Religions were invented to control humanity. (That's a restrained version.) Phil. | Written by Fledermaus (3246 comments posted) 12th July 2007 | Hi Phil. Sounds logical. | Hi Written by maipenrai (783 comments posted) 12th July 2007 | I liked this but am finding it a little differcult to respond to ( my fault, not the poem). I was brought up as a RC but over the years lost any believe I had in God or Church, and I would go along with what Phil as posted. Bernie | Written by Bottleblondesurfer (3331 comments posted) 13th July 2007 | Nothing wrong with the quality. In fact I think it's one of your best. It is funny that all the religions preach peace and love and then blindly ignore the fact that they don't practise it. Ido think it has more to do with tribalilsm though. There was the Iran/Iraq war with Muslims killing Muslims. Religion is often just a hook to hang a grievance on and Phil is dead right about God, and organised religion is all about control which is why all the mainstream ones are terrified of women. cheers Jane | Written by Josie (2777 comments posted) 13th July 2007 | | I agree that this is one of your best pieces of writing Fledermaus, and as for the subject, unfortunately, you are quite correct. I also don't think that the wars of the world have anything to do with the religious doctrine and especially not with God. It is all to do with mankind and his inhumanity to man. I can only speak as a Christian, but I think that if Jesus Christ came back into the world today, he would find it little changed, and his message of love your neighbour as yourself would be the same, but like the last time, rejected by many (but not all by a long way). We have to remember that the good outnumber the bad by a long long way. Well done! | Written by Fledermaus (3246 comments posted) 14th July 2007 | Thanks maipenrai, BBS and Josie. maipenrai: I think Phil has a good point indeed. Especially where the difference between god(s) and religion is concerned. BBS: I guess you're right, but when religion is used for politics it seems people get even fiercer and crueler. The Iraq-Iran war was in some way a religious war too. Iran is shi'a theocracy. Iraq at that time was a secular state, but mainly ruled by sunnis. Add to that racisism on both sides (Arabs vs. Persians) and the propaganda had all tools to make those people hate the other... I wonder why all these religions are so scared of women btw. Surely it can't be all because of that story about Eve and the apple. Besides, I thought the Virgin Mary was suposed to counter that mistake... Josie: You could write a story about that. I remember a song where God returns to earth after a holiday, and because no-one is nice to him, he decides never to return again and let humanity ruin itself...
