some days life should be a slow moving stream
now underneath the green umbrella
of the mango tree i shall sit, idle poet,
watch the lazy fingers of dusk
sketch dainty petals of crocus in the sky;
listen to the melodies of leaves
crisp and golden like husks in harmattan;
twiddle the fine-haired blades
of lemon grass thick and buoyant;
sniff the sea-balmy scent
of the late breezes dancing frolicsome,
free my mind of the tedious thoughts
of tomorrow's sundry sorrows and cares!

You know Written by audrie (451 comments posted) 16th July 2007 | uche, I really like this. I can imagine you resting at ease and watching the world go by. I don't think any of us take 'the time to stand and stare' as perhaps we should. | Written by Phil (6688 comments posted) 16th July 2007 | Enjoyed this Uche. Much more restful than usual - but still with threatening undertones. Particularly liked: watch the lazy fingers of dusk sketch dainty petals of crocus in the sky; Phil | ?? Found a few words a bit out of place though, like "twiddle" and "frolicsome". Also found the exclamation mark at the end unnecessary. Other than that, a pleasure to read. | Written by Fledermaus (3248 comments posted) 17th July 2007 | | That sounds like a much more cheerful side of Nigeria than your other poems. Sad that the thirst for oil is destroying such a country rather than improving it. Especially in that light it's very nice how you describe those things which were probably always there, and which no money can buy... | Written by Gill21 (566 comments posted) 17th July 2007 | | A very peaceful piece. Some lovely turns of phrase and imagery. A pleasure to read. |
