A short poem; a prose poem almost. Influenced by Richard Brautigan.
That tree that was cut to your wardrobe has forgiven you -
now it has a big square and silver eye to regard you each morning : first thing it sees.

Perhaps it's Richard Brautigan. Phil. | RESPONSE Written by karlostheunhappyjackyl (13 comments posted) 18th July 2007 | I'm sorry you feel that way. If you have not read any Richard Brautigan, like In Watermelon Sugar, then it seems to me that you probably ought not to: you won't like it. You're right with the 'so what', although that does deny a level of feeling which I originally charged the piece with. Richard Brautigan's work has a feel that is not flippant, but creatively whimsical (that's the best way I think I can describe it) and I guess it is quietly melancholic. It is therefore spares and image heavy, which appeals to me as I come from a Haiku (Western preferably) point of interest. Brautigan finally committed suicide. I don't know if that is relevant, but it is an interesting fact nonetheless. |
