one final pulse

When cancer is stronger than a families love.

Ruza

can you hear us asking you about your final thoughts?
about the way you lived and the peace you sought
merely a pale remembrance of your once golden color
slowly slipping away as we still judge each other

on that freezing July evening at about half passed ten
you closed the eyes that would never open again
we remember the look of freedom on your face
as your soul slipped peacefully from this hellish place

we cried and screamed and begged you to return
but our voices went mute when your body blurred
with one final pulse and a release of sacred breath
all of us understood that you have defied death

how long did you lie there waiting for closure
whilst your body bled out your life force so slowly
was it worth the pain for a mere single goodbye
why Ruzica, did you have to die?

in loving memory of a perfect sister and friend
may i imagine your grace around every corner and bend
may you lead us through all times of tears and dismay
and may we find each other somewhere someday

Ruzica Sakulski
1991 - 2007

if the size of a spirit is judged on tenderness
open wider the gates of heaven

Apologies.

I should have added - very sorry for your loss. Words never seem adequate - but they are all I can offer.

Beautiful two last lines. Touching, heartfelt and in no way overdone. What Phil said.

thank you, cherish every moment and live every day to the maximum.
take some time to notice the things that define the ones you love. do not, ever, let the moments shared together fade away!

I've just read this, and it has moved me beyond words. I have a teenage son, and can not begin to imagine my life without him.

My heart goes out to you in your loss. I agree with Clo, the last two lines are beautiful. I will hold my son extra close tonight before he goes to sleep.

My God Charlie you have summed up the feeling of a great loss in such few words, I could feel the tears that all your family must have shed at this terrible time. I lost my sister two years ago and still miss her terribly, although she had lived many years more than Ruzica. This cancer is a terrible thing.
I hope that life is kind to you in future.

That was so sad... I loved it though... I had my doubts, cause I'm not big on poetry, but it drew me in immediately.

Rock on =]
