there is a rank smell of corruption
hanging over Westminster today
it is festering deep within
the body politic and the
great and good
wallow in the slime and filth
no guilt, no guilt
they loudly proclaim
as toadys whisper in their
covens of deceit,
and the people shout
no faith, no believe
in you, you are
damned in the eyes of
the many but feted by the few
who carry the same loathsome
smell of corruption as you
but does it matter
you may ask and
I ask myself the same question
after all I live my life quite well
within my controlled little bubble.
viva la revolution
justice for all I cried
but the people were deaf
they had cloth ears. |

Is there a scandal at hand in the UK, or is that just the usual thing politicians do? Enjoyable read. | Written by Phil (6836 comments posted) 21st July 2007 | believe - possibly belief? I've come to conclusion that politics is always about the corruption of ideas and beliefs. At its worst, it's about the corruption of individuals. Quite liked this one, especially its resigned end. Phil. | Written by Livinginanattic (465 comments posted) 21st July 2007 | Nicely topical. I like the image of the 'great and good' wallowing in slime and filth. I take it you don't buy the verdict of the cash for honours enquiry! Not sure about the switch in tense of the last verse, but enjoyed all the same. Ben | Written by philkent (157 comments posted) 21st July 2007 | | Nicely topical and well put. In the old days governments and regimes went in fear of angry poets and satirists. These days even they can dent their own little bubbles sadly. | thanks Written by maipenrai (784 comments posted) 21st July 2007 | to, wltshr, fledermause, phil, ben and philkent for your comments and suggestions. I am a cynic full stop. I am thinking that it is not beyond possibility that political pressure was brought to bear on the cps? | always thought Written by maipenrai (784 comments posted) 21st July 2007 | as philkent says I always thought/think that poetry/poets should be the voice of ordinary people. maybe I am naive as well as being a cynic. I also believe that most people of what acadamic standard can/should write poetry, the idea of poetry being elitist should be fought against in a big way, there are many voices of young people out there needed to be listened to.
