What sort of world
By Fledermaus
27 July 2007
Isn't a strange world we live in? Slightly inspired by JohnnieD's "unrest world".

What sort of world is it,
Where most people live in towns?
Peasants are minorities
Less than half harvest for all

What sort of world is it,
Where the families scatter?
People forget their ancestors
The young don't respect the old

What sort of world is it,
Where strangers are distrusted?
They are no longer embraced
No welcome for those guests

What sort of world is it,
Where people don't fear nature?
Animals in small cages
Ancient trees are chopped down

What sort of world is it,
Where people became spoiled kids
Alone, surrounded by toys
But with no friends to play with

A shitty one probably - but it's not that bad is it?

I've got to say, over the last few weeks I've been subject to many random acts of kindness by strangers. (I've been hobbling round on crutches - which gets you into some odd situations)

There's hope yet.

A lot of what you are saying is true. Families scatter and here in Britain there doesn't seem to be the family closeness that I knew when I was a child. But the internet is bringing people of the world together. I have met people and made friends with people I would never normally have met - like you Fledermaus! We'll all send you an embrace to compensate you. Get it? As for nature - oh! oh! oh! When I go into my garden there are hundreds of eyes watching me. Moorhens fly out of hedges and ducks quack and run. It's not me they want to embrace, but Tesco's cheapo bread. The wildlife here don't want to find me afraid of THEM. Not at all!

Thanks Phil and Josie.
Indeed I should write about the bright side of life a bit more often. It isn't all bad. Just sometimes I wonder how strange life has become, especially in the cities of our industrialized world. It should be perfect. In material terms, we have everything we could wish for, yet somehow it seems old fashioned hospitality and close communities slowly disappear...

As for nature being frightening. I intended to extend that, but the number of lines and syllables didn't allow it. What I wanted to say there that once people were affraid of nature, but now nature has to be affraid of humans...

Hi

I think it's time we realised that friends are the new family. As our biological family chase dreams in the far corners of the world, the people who we are closest to are the people who mind our cats, dry our tears and surprise us everyday.

Nature can reduce us all to apes with a swipe of her long graceful arm. Let it rain let it rain let it rain. I think nature will right our wrongs, until we learn they are wrong.

This world is only what we percieve it to be,we see what suits are world view and prejudices. Just think the next generation will probably look back on this time as a golden age, twas ever thus

Thanks gedbackland and BBS.

You're both probably right. Although I don't think friends can ever replace family. Somehow my family, even those I've never seen because they live on the other side of the world, are always my family. Friends do comfort, have fun and exchange secrets, but they are not the same as brothers or sisters or even cousins, I think...
