Amusing or all too predictable?
Dear Erica,
I was rather taken by your blog entry, 12/7/07. It wasn’t so much what you said about yourself, although it is very endearing that you play down your achievements with that children’s charity; nor the attached photograph of you winning the wet T-shirt competition in Falaraki last year, though I have to confess to being dazzled by your good looks – in actual fact, what impressed me most were your insightful comments regarding online honesty.
Please feel free to visit my blog: www.blogcity_andy.com
Yours,
Andy.
Dear Andy,
Thank you for your lovely message. It’s always nice to know there are other bloggers out there who are not shallow like the rest of them. You wouldn’t believe some of the messages I’ve had.
I had chance to visit your blog this evening. I’m so glad I did. The photograph of you with Claudia Schiffer outside the Sheraton Hotel is fantastic. It must have been so exciting to receive the bravery award from such a famous (and beautiful) person. What exactly did you do?
Keep in touch,
Love Erica.
Dearest Erica,
Thank you so much your message. I have to confess to returning many times to your blog site. I find the beautiful eyes in your photograph quite beguiling.
I notice from your profile that you only live a few miles from me. Perhaps we could get together for a drink and a chat. I would love to meet you in the flesh.
Love
Andy
Darling Andy,
How kind of you to suggest we meet. I’d love to.
I too keep visiting your blog and imagining what it would be like to feel those wiry, tanned arms around me. I’m free on Monday night.
Love and kisses,
Erica
Darling Erica,
And I can’t wait to wrap my arms around that gorgeous figure of yours. Do you still have the T-shirt?
How about the Grey Mare at eight, Monday. Should be nice and quiet.
Love you,
Andy
Andrew,
I was in the Grey Mare this evening as arranged. I can’t understand why you didn’t show. You were right, it was very quiet. Just the bar tender, me and some dirty old bloke sat in the corner. I thought for a moment it could be you, but as he only had one arm, how could he wrap them around me. Wiry he might have been, sweet smelling he most certainly wasn’t. The only brave thing I could imagine him doing was facing his own smell first thing in the morning. I don’t think Claudia Schiffer would have been seen dead in the same photograph. I’ve removed my blogcity pages. Please don’t try to contact me.
Erica.
Erica,
You lying bitch. I might have told a white lie about meeting Claudia Schiffer, but the only wet T-shirt competition you’ve ever won is the one for the T-shirt that absorbs the most water. Even if I still had both arms, I doubt I could have wrapped them around your rotundity. The only thing that’s probably close to the truth on your blog is your chest size: 40EE.
I too have removed my blogcity pages.
Andy.

the dangers of web sites!! I liked this very much and have often wondered why people go to these dating agencies and if they really believe all the lies that are obviously told. But I guess to each his own! Yes, it was predictable but also a good laugh, Phil! |

This was fun to read, and I guess we all expected that it would turn out to be a disappointment for all concerned. But it does sometimes work. Two of my children have had relationships with people they met on the internet - one ending in marriage and the other in a long lasting partnership, followed by friendship. But you would have thought that people would realise that telling lies about themselves would be found out as soon as the writing becomes reality. |

Yes, a good read. The relationship developed very quickly, but then I suppose they were quite desperate and got what they deserved! Good one Lizzy |

I suppose this could have been a real life blog exchange (what are you getting up to on that computer of yours Phil!) This really made me smile, you could tell poor old Andy and Erica were setting themselves up for a fall right from the beginning, bless them. I once saw someone on an online dating service describing himself as a 'Robbie Williams lookalike'. As there wasn't a photo it was a bit hard to judge - he was probably more Robin than Robbie I'd guess! Great stuff. |

I heard similar stories from people IRL Yet like Jean, I know some people who met their girlfriend or boyfriend online and have a good real life relationship now. Furthermore, I know a number of geek girls who are absolutely gorgeous (and brains are awlays attractive, aren't they?). Enjoyable read, and a nice (probably unintended) parody on Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks |

I loved the first part of this, Phil, and hoped it would go on in the same tone, but I think you got to the ending too quickly! I would prefer you to have stretched this story out a little longer, perhaps having these people try and prepare the other for the truth by talking about the importance of 'inner beauty,' etc. On a related (but rather unconnected) point, the other day I found a blog wherein the writer lamented how many hairs on her chin she had and wondered what to do about them. So there are bloggers who are unimpeachably honest. You could put a gun to my head and I wouldn't blog about my chin hairs. |

Entertaining and true. Very disappointed to find the blog link didn't work even though you later said it would be removed. I spent a couple years doing the dating agency thing and a very thoroughly eye opening experience it was. The usual scenario would be a picture that caught your eye of a smiling female, who you would engage in conversation and eventually meet, only to find the picture was taken ten years and four stone ago. Never mind, life really is like a box of chocolates - as a great man once said. |

OK I will say something. I loved the characters you created, and the fact that you just knew it was going to end in tears didnt matter. I liked the characters and was happy to follow them wherever they went and whatever happened to them. I too think it could have been longer. It would have been fun to draw it out more. They were worth it Jane |

| With the others - liked the characters and would have been happy for it to have gone on longer. |

| Nicely built up and very funny. I really liked the change of tone after their real-life encounter. |

| Thanks for reading. You're right - too brief. |
Written by Witzl (1585 comments posted) 31st July 2007 |
| But too brief is a lot better than too long, Phil! Nothing better than to leave people asking for more; nothing worse than to leave them wishing there was a lot less... |

Funny, funny and more funny. Liked the idea very much. The end seemd a lil rushed to me, but loved the concept. Regards, TT |

Funny and too short but as someone said already it's better to leave people wanting more. Not sure who it was but I'm sure I've seen this done on a comedy sketch show some time in the distant past. Cheers Chris |

| Before reading the review by witzl, and others, I reached the same conclusion: good story idea but but should have been longer. |

This popped up on the sideboard Phil, so I had a gander. Enjoyed the fun. I like (share) your sense of humour and thought this was great fun, though could be embelished and lengthened. I wonder how many of these dishonest online "relationships" exist, millions I'd wager. I hope it wasn't even based on personal experience! Regards Oli |

I just saw this on the sideboard too. Maybe a teeny bit predictable, but bloody hilarious all the same. E |
