Superb Short Story Collections

Postby Ergo Proxy » Wed Sep 14, 2011 4:54 am

im looking for a new short story collection to read (to help bolster my own writing skills). I swear by (and worship):

In Other Rooms Other Wonders -Daniyal Mueenuddin
Olive Kitteridge- Elizabeth Strout
Interpreter of Maladies -Jhumpta Lahiri

Anyone know of any other exceptional, non-genre short story collections (preferably literary)?

Look out for 'Short Stories by Guy de Maupassant'. Maupassant was 19th century french writer. If you can get past the slightly oldie worldie language you will be rewarded by some of the best short stories ever written. 'The Necklace', 'Boule de Suif' and the 'The Horla' come to mind.
