About Desolation....

Postby MaxwellDaring » Sun Jul 01, 2012 6:08 am

Well, hearing the criticism proves how much of a learning experience this is going to be. Now, I'm thinking I should revisit Desolation years after this and do it right. I just think it would be somewhat of an injustice to do it when I'm still extremely inexperienced. The whole thing takes place within a little universe of mine that has stories like this going back to 2040, and has no end in sight. I think I should do some stories in other timelines, then revisit the Grand Continuity later on. This doesn't mean your helpful comments left me crying in a corner, cursed to never mutter a single word about the universes in my head I'm inventing every other day. Well, it was a tiny bit gut-wrenching, but it's kind of my fault. Anyhow, the other chapters are probably going to gather dust in Google Docs, waiting for that day when I've taken the principle of Occam's Razor to heart, and when I've manage to tackle more books than a few classics and a bunch of books from my childhood. Until then, I'll be wearing my aviator sunglasses, typing away at something worth someone's time. Let's try this writing thing again, okay? Let's do this.
Ever onward, ever upward.
Well, sometimes downwards, but we don't like to talk about downward

Don't be too discouraged. You had some good stuff in there - it's just that writing comes in two stages - writing and editing, and they're both important. I'd like to recommend a book that I think would be very useful for you - it's pretty dry but definitely worth reading - http://www.amazon.com/Line-How-Edit-Your-Writing/dp/0395393914/ref=la_B001KDRBIA_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1341129366&sr=1-1

Glad that you posted that recommendation, Kanasta.
I was going to post a question asking if anyone could recommend something similar.

Thanks
Ben

Thanks for the input. It's also because I would like to move on to something different for the moment, and even though I know exactly where the book is going, I'm going to let it ripen a little. I am, however, going to post the other five chapters of Desolation so that you can understand the world I invented a bit better. It isn't running away when you can come back and give it another go.
