You capture the essence of youth in these so well. It's that drifting quality of going from one thing to the next without having anything much to worry about, except homelessness, which is a primary concern but comes across as no big deal, really.

This time last year I had a massive circle of mates and was out every weekend. Then, I made the ridiculous decision to move a hundred and three miles away to Manchester. I don't know a soul, there's one pub in the village that is shite. The people I work with aren't my type, at all.... so I'm living vicariously through your nights out and becoming a cat lady. Have a voddie for me, please, house double, diet coke, no ice...ta.

That's just the situation I'm trying to capture. In the first few chapters of this novel this was the main problem for the protagonist. I think so many uni books are like, "Yeah, uni's great, make loads of friends and have a whale of a time," but it isn't like that for everyone and this, as I say, was the main conflict I started off with and it's a major part of the book.
