The Five Bearded Gnomes

Postby Sue » Mon May 16, 2011 4:57 pm

re-posted from GW1, second draft. Having edited and edited over the past couple of days I think it's ready to go, so it is now removed from public view and winging its way (in triplicate) to the Cheshire Prize.

Oh and I renamed the gnomes as"brothers" because the little Latin riddle that it comes from calls them so:

Johann Herrmann (1738-1800) quoted --

Vetus hinc etiam aenigma ortum traxit:

Quinque sunt fratres,
Duo sunt barbati,
Sine barba sunt duo nati,
Unus ex his quinque
Non habet barbam utrinque.

Dear Sue,

This is great, it's funny and compact. I like the arguing bits, and can picture funny illustrations of the bearded and bald gnomes - and I think a picture of the rose at the end would help a lot, if you get to that stage...

I'd definitely stick with gnomes, as they'd naturally be doing the gardening wouldn't they? Five gardening dwarves would be too much of a coincidence.

Can't help much with the age group question I'm afraid, though I teach kids from 12 upwards. Seems about right for 7 and below though.

All best,
The Basque
