HELP - GW fonts

Postby SylvesterG » Thu Mar 08, 2012 6:19 pm

Is there a list of the fonts recognised by the GW software?

Check any of the phpBB help forums.

Personally, I don't give a toss what typeface is used. I just want to see something readable. Quality will show through.

I see your point to an extent but I don't think writing should be confused with graphic design. As long as the words are clear and easy to read, it shouldn't matter in the context of this forum. Personally I actually tend to see jokes written in Comic Sans as inherently less funny, because they are just trying too hard. Just as I'd rather not read a vampire story in flowing Gothic copperplate. A neutral typeface that delivers the words to my brain as efficiently as possible is fine, thanks - I'll infer the meanings myself.

As a magazine editor, I agree with Kanasta. It's a truism that over-presented writing tends to be less effective than work that uses neutral typefaces. I want readers to see through the presentation to the meaning of the words, which might just be why I use the signature that you see below.

I see your point and have no quarrel with it. however, the actual opening question was, and still is, asking for a list of font types the site can take. There is an editing facility provided for ‘font’ but in the absence of a list, one has to resort to trial and error. There are probably more than 100,000 font types in the computing universe. The site administrator probably factored in a finite number of fonts to be recognised by the site and specifying any other font type is, presumably, diverted to the default font. My quest in the first place was, and still is, for avoidance of trial and error, and thus making the font editing feature on the editing bar more functional for those who wish to use it.

I don't think there is an exhaustive list, but any of the common typefaces are likely to be recognised.

Times New Roman
Arial
Georgia
Verdana

If you really need anything more exotic than those, try searching for "web friendly fonts" and you'll get something like this:

Arial Black,
Comic Sans MS, Comic Sans MS5,
Courier New,
Georgia,
Impact,
Lucida Console,
Lucida Sans Unicode,
Palatino Linotype,
Book Antiqua,
Tahoma,
Trebuchet MS1, Trebuchet MS
